In & Around St Kilda

St Kilda Festival is one of Australia’s best known and Melbourne’s most loved events.  Held in February, it is a free celebration utilising St Kilda’s stunning foreshore and featuring many Australian musical bands.

The St Kilda Festival is held every year and is one of Australia's oldest and largest Film Festival. It screens the top 100 placements and allows those to present their short films on the big screen to give them recognition. Runs for over a week and are usually held at the Astor Theatre and Palais Theatre.

This art deco theatre is currently one of the largest theatres in Australia, seating 2,896 patrons.  It hosts a wide range of shows/concerts etc from live music to ballet, International and Australian bands and also comedy and  film events.

This 75 year old grand old cinema still retains its old Art Deco charm and feel from the 1930's. You will be impressed as soon as you walk in the door with the architecture and charm of this heritage building. The cinema screens all the modern day movies and has seating capacity for 1150 persons.

The historic National was built as a cinema in 1920s and in the 1970's it was converted to a theatre with opera and ballet studios underneath.   It hosts all styles of performances from musicals, dance and opera  concerts to intimate performances.  Major dance events, concerts, dramatic productions and festivals are held in the venue, which still maintains its dual function as a cinema.

Luna Park is one of St Kilda's famous Icons and has been operating as an amusement park since 1912.  Luna Park offers a range of amusements and thrilling rides  like the Pharaoh’s Curse, Metropolis and the Enterprise, to exhilarating rides like the Spider, Twin Dragon, G Force and new Coney Island Top Drop.
